Arctic char, Salvelinus alpinus
The Arctic char is one of the most difficult fishes to catch in the summertime. It lives in cold lakes often with poor nutrition. Most char are caught in the wintertime during ice fishing. Many consider the char as the prettiest of all the species of the salmon family.
The char can grow to over 8 kg, but those over 2 kg is very rare. A char over 40 cm is a nice fish, and over 45 cm is considered a very good fish.
When you try fly fishing for char, it can get really frustrating as char tend to be very selective.
