Grayling, Thymallus thymallus

grayling

Many call this fish The Lady of the Stream, and for many anglers this is the one and only fish. Trysil is well known for its large population of this beautiful fish.
Some say that the grayling can grow up to 3 kg, but those over 1.5 kg are very rare.
If you talk to experienced fly fishers in Trysil, they will say that a grayling over 35 cm is a nice fish, and grayling over 40 cm is considered a very good fish.
In Trysil, grayling over 1 kg are caught every year as a result of dedication, knowledge and a bit of luck.
