Whitefish, Coregonus lavaretus

The whitefish is sometimes also called the freshwater herring. The meat from the whitefish is very good. You can catch whitefish in the Trysil River and in some of the lakes in Trysil.
They say that the whitefish seldom reach weight over 1,5 kg, but in the Trysil river anglers catch whitefish over 1,5 kg every year.
The Whitefish is an underestimated fish when it comes to angling. It has a small and very brittle mouth. It gives you no room for error, especially when you are fly fishing. One wrong move and you will loose it.
